To the Nepalese Goverment, Prime Minister, Minister for Home Affairs:
Every five years, pilgrims flock to the temple of the goddess Gadhimai in the small Nepalese border town of Bariyarpur to behead vast quantities of livestock over two days.

More than 250,000 animals are being lined up for slaughter as Nepalembarks on a two-day religious festival where buffalo, birds and goats are sacrificed to appease a Hindu goddess.

When the festival was held in 2009, more than 250,000 animals were killed, according to animal rights organisation PETA, who is campaigning to put a stop to the practice.

However, even international Animal Protection organizations protest, the festival still continues. On 28th of October of 2014, 6000 buffalos were sacrificed. Next day around 100000 smaller animals were sacrificed.

The festival is held for two days and is kicked off with a mass-slaughter of buffalo, after which hundreds of thousands of animals are sacrificed to the goddess.

Worshippers believe the animal sacrifice, meant to appease Gadhimai, the Hindu goddess of power, brings them luck and
prosperity.

Local government representatives say they cannot ban Hindu's form the slaughter during the festival because it would 'hurt their sentiments.’

We call on you to stop massive buffalo and other animals ritual
massacres in Nepal. In the meantime, when big part of Nepalese people suffer from earthquake and its’ consecuences, the other part still wants to continue killing of alive beings and therefore to increace destruction and chaos in the world.
Gandhimai festival is possibly the largest ritual killing of animals in the world.

We invite the president and government of Nepal to stop this meaningless killing of animals. It’s unbelievable, that in modern times killing is still associated with spiritual life.

Please, call on to the Nepalese Government, Prime Minister, Minister for Tourism, and Minister for Home Affairs ensure this is the last time it ever happens.
