Large companies (like Baya, Syngenta and Monsanto) can patent not only our common vegetable seeds, but (according to a clear youtube source) wild varieties that are likely to be cross pollinated as well.

Due to the Plant Patent Act of 1930.

This could not only affect farmers and small scale vegetable gardeners, but all of us in a big way…We are talking large companies owning our food through owning the seed patents.

The excuse given to, and now by governments, is that we need to meet the needs of the growing populations on the planet. This may be so, but does the history of large corporations point to them being more concerned with the wider family upon this planet, over profit, shareholders and control of the market&quest

Are large corporations patenting seeds really a part of the answer to growing populations, or a potential disaster in progress&quest

We believe that Seed Patenting appears to be a major threat to the people on this planet and an irreversible threat to wild life through genetic manipulation.

Farmers and gardeners rights to collect and own their collected seeds we would like to see respected also.

We ask that the 1930 USA Plant Patent Act and the UK 1977 Patents Act be amended to exclude seeds, and/or a complete ban on companies and individuals patenting seeds from edible plants and processes involved with seed manipulation. We also ask that wild varieties of plants resulting from cross pollination from genetically manipulated crops, cannot be owned by anyone.
