Since the 1970's Majuli islander Jadav Payeng has been planting trees in order to save his beautiful 'river island' from erosion and give protection and food to animals. To date he has single-handedly planted a forest larger than New York's Central Park. His forest has transformed what was once a barren part of the island, into a lush oasis that has helped slow down erosion to his island and allowed all manner of wildlife to come to it for solace.

Imagine if one man can do this with no financial backing, by simply sharing the seeds from trees, what people around the world can do to their own barren wastelands with time, tenacity and passion?

Add to that a community of helpers. Or some public funding. And watch the world change back from one plundered for its resources to one where we work WITH nature, planting with love, taking only as much as we are able to give back. This is a hugely inspirational story not only for us but our children and the children of the future.

Your signature will be a signature to get Majuli Island listed as one of UNESCO's World Heritage site in order to teach everyone around the world how we can all change our environment for the better, given focus, passion, resilience and strength. Our ecosystem can only benefit from this knowledge and all those who sign will be contributing to making the world a better place for us all.

Dear UNESCO, we know Majuli Island is on your 'tentative' list and that you have rejected the local peoples application, but we believe the beauty of the island, this forest and its story could inspire groups of people in barren wastelands around the world and teach us all about saving the world one seed at a time.

Scientists recently announced that in 15 or 20 years Majuli could be completely gone. Not only erosion but poachers and plunderers also threaten Majuli.

Please give it official standing by making it a Unesco World Heritage site NOW

Watch this recent award winning short film about this humble and inspiring man and the photographer he befriended. Jadav Payeng's story inspires us not to start a revolution through words but to start change by sewing the seeds ourselves.
