iTunes: Make African classics available to stream in Africa

Why this is important

There are great films available to stream about Africa ‐ but most of them are geo‐blocked and not available to Africans.

Appropriation is a complicated discussion but we should all be able to agree that if you tell someone else's story for your own benefit, the least you can do is allow them to see it and comment.

African classics not available to Africans include:
• South African Oscar‐winner 'Tsotsi'
• Kenya‐set Oscar‐winner 'In A Better World'
• Moroccan‐set Oscar‐winner 'Babel'
• Mauritanian Oscar‐nominee 'Timbuktu'
• Rwanda‐set Oscar nominee 'Hotel Rwanda'
• 2018 Oscar‐shortlisted films 'The Wound' (South Africa) and 'Felicite' (DRC/Senegal)
• 2018 BAFTA winner 'I Am Not A Witch' (Zambia)
• Somalia‐set Oscar‐nominated short film 'Asad'
• Cameroon‐set 'White Material' ‐ one of The New York Times' Top 25 Films of the 21st Century
• Mozambique‐set 'Tabu' ‐ one of the BBC's 100 Greatest Films of the 21st Century
• Egyptian film 'Clash (Eshtebak)' ‐ one of Rotten Tomatoes Top 100 Films of 2017
• The Botswana‐set box office phenomenon 'The Gods Must Be Crazy'
• The award‐winning DRC crime movie 'Viva Riva'

These are just some examples from a very, very long list.

All of these films are available in iTunes outside of Africa. Help us change that; Africans should be allowed to watch and comment on the stories told about them.
