Save the internet from the TPP
To members of the U.S. Senate:
As citizens around the world, we are alarmed that free speech and the open-internet could be trampled by fast-track legislation on the Trans Pacific Partnership. Harsh copyright regulations embedded in this bill criminalise ordinary citizens everywhere who use the Internet for open access to information, but this Tuesday, you have the chance to stop it in its tracks. Your vote will tell President Barack Obama that our rights will not be crushed by the corporate bottom line.

Under the new law, the US could force Internet providers to take down content on suspicion of violating copyright and arrest any of us for sharing "trade secrets," information that benefits the public, but hurts a corporate bottom line. And, because so much of the Internet's hosts and hardware are located in the US, their attack would clamp down on the free web for all of us.
This vote is happening in days, and we can stop it -- champions in Congress want to preserve free speech and tell us that a global outcry would strengthen their hand. It's worked before, so let's urgently raise our voices from every corner of the world to build an unprecedented global petition. Sign then share widely.
