Gateway to the UN System's Work on Climate Change - Thursday, December 10Fossil of the Day Award 10-12-2009 Fossil of the Day AwardsOne of the most awaited moments of the day comes when the Climate Action Network stages its Fossil of the Day Award. Amid much fanfare and a song of its own, Ben Wikler strides up to a small stage and to a drumroll, announces the countries that deserve“shame and scorn” for a position taken, at the conference or at home. The award is a gleaming lump of coal. Now in its tenth year, the award presentation has taken on a more polished affair, attracting a very large crowd of observers in a place where, seemingly, everyone is vying for attention.Wikler says some countries get mad at the award, while others consider it a badge of honor.
