Bring the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) under proper democratic scrutiny.
unhappily this petition hasn't picked up a rapid enough accumulation of signers to be effective. However I would recommend those concerned to go to http://nottip.org.uk/ and register interest there.
The TTIP aims to create a single transatlantic market, in which all regulatory differences between the US and the EU are gradually removed. The problem is that it is being negotiated mostly in secret. It has moved on into a phase where they are not just trying to remove international trade barriers, but to tackle barriers behind the customs border – such as differences in technical regulations, standards and approval procedures. All of this is without proper democratic oversight. Given the far ranging potential of such a partnership to change the economic, social and commercial landscape, it should not be allowed to be enacted without proper opportunity for electorates to be informed and to exercise democratic oversight of what is being agreed by the TTIP.
