Request UN investigates racism of Mugabe's Zim: British Govt must act
Racist laws
and policies and the breakdown of the rule of law have brought Zimbabweans to appalling
hunger and poverty, resulting in the migration of a quarter of the population.
The targeted
attacks and decimation of Ndebele people during the Gukurahundi massacres
(1983‐1987) by the Mugabe government was based solely on the ethnicity of a
single group.
The destruction of the rule of law and the government’s ruinous racist policies
and campaigns of violence have also destroyed the commercial farming sector.
These continued actions are in contempt of the anti‐racism judgment by the
region's SADC Tribunal judges (all black) who ruled
that the Zimbabwe Government had acted in a racist manner by brutally forcing
white commercial farmers off their land.
Until racism stops, the
economy will continue to fail and migration will increase.
We are asking the British Government to make the complaint because it needs a
fellow UN signatory state to do so.
In the last centuries there has never been a country ‐ outside a wartime
situation ‐ where so many British citizens have been dispossessed without legal process or any compensation.
Despite this, the British Government has failed to properly support its
citizens, many of whom are now destitute.
The British Government failed to set up a bilateral investment treaty
with Zimbabwe which would have held the government to account; it has failed to
initiate a documentation process of British citizens’ losses; and it has failed
to invoke the UN Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial
Discrimination (ICERD) ‐ which has been demonstrably violated.
We are asking the British Government to&colon
1. Lodge a complaint with ICERD and request a full investigation into
the ongoing, violent theft of people’s homes, businesses and possessions which
began 16 years ago and has been committed on a racial basis.
2. Allocate money and resources towards documenting British citizens’ losses in Zimbabwe and assisting its citizens to gain justice.
Sign now to ensure that British Government triggers a UN investigation into the
ongoing racial violations that are causing so much suffering to so many people
of all races in Zimbabwe.
