The Constitutional Court of Korea: Stop the Legalization of Prostitution
An appeal has been put before the South Korean Constitutional Court saying that the current punishment law on sex trafficking is unconstitutional and must be repealed.
Intermediaries in prostitution are the main culprits of human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation, and the buyers are the accomplices of this trafficking. The exploitation posed to the prostituted women becomes uncontrollable under the name of ‘business’, ‘sexual service’, and ‘transaction’ once the state takes a stance in favor of prostitution.
Moongchi—the Network of Women with Experience in Prostitution—and other women’s organizations against sexual exploitation are working together to stop the law from being found unconstitutional while making some changes to protect the women.
It’s time for us to root for them in defense of the punishment law on sex trafficking for intermediaries and buyers in Korea and the human rights of the prostituted women. This petition will be sent to the Constitutional Court.
