Stop Racism

In Europe, 10% of blacks say that they have already been stopped by the police due to racism. In Brazil, of every 100-people killed, 71 are black.  In 2015, in USA, 37% of the unarmed people killed by the American police were black. In Europe, 2% of blacks have been victims of racist violence by a police officer in the past five years.  In Brazil, murder deaths among black youth are two and a half times higher than among white youth. In United States, blacks are up to three times more likely to be killed by police than whites.  In Europe, 1 in 4 blacks has already been stopped in a police raid. In the state of Rio de Janeiro, blacks make up 11.1% of the population, but 32.4% are killed by the police.  Italy has the highest rate seen among those stopped by police due to racist motivation: 60% of cases.

The Congregations of St. Joseph , an NGO in General Consultative Status with ECOSOC at the United Nations, condemns all forms of racism and xenophobia wherever and however they manifest themselves and in particular, at this time, systemic racism against persons of African descent, as made visible in the killing of George Floyd .
