Stop Privatization of Healthcare Bill 175 Petition

Whereas, the Ford government’s privatization of healthcare bill 175 guts existing home-care and community care legislation, takes away public oversight, expands private hospitals, leaves no public body to bring complaints to and moves vital protections to new regulations that set up a regime to privatize currently publicly delivered community care.
Whereas the pandemic has exposed the for-profit Long-Term Care industry as detrimental to the health of the most vulnerable in our society and the cause of so much grief among family and caregivers.
Whereas we know that when corporations have no oversight and they are driven by profits that the needs, health and safety of people and workers become casualties. 
Whereas this legislation puts corporations in a conflict of interest because the private providers decide on who gets the care, how much care, the supplies to use and in the end their decisions affect their profits.
Whereas home-care costs about 3.1 billion a year, belongs to the people of Ontario and should not be given away to the private sector in a bid to raise funds for the Ford government’s re-election at Ontarians' expense.
Whereas privatization costs more, has more deaths, worse patient outcomes, and less patient satisfaction.  
Whereas a government that is “for the people” should never be allowed to ram a bill through parliament during a Covid 19 outbreak in the summer when people are distracted and cannot safely protest.
We the signatories demand the Ford government
withdraw the privatization of healthcare bill 175 immediately.
