Let Amazon save the Amazon!

For decades the Amazon river and rainforest has been in the news. The region's importance to the world as a huge carbon sink, a miracle of biodiversity, and as home to indigenous people who understand how to live in harmony with the ecosystem has been touted by scientists and nature defenders around the world. It has also been in the news for its ongoing destruction by dams, gold mining, illegal logging, oil drilling and oil spills, runaway mega agriculture, and most recently fire. The frustration the people of the world feel about the out of control degradation of the Amazon is made worse by the current political leadership in Brazil. If the the loss of the Amazon rainforest is not stopped the planet will lose an immensely important natural feature which might still play a role in saving the planet from the worst of climate change.
Jeff Bezos has the resources to save the Amazon. To petition Mr. Bezos to invest in preserving the Amazon would seem to be in line with his pledge of $10 billion to fight climate change through his Bezos Earth Fund initiative, and so it would seem he has the humanitarian instincts to try to help save our planet. The world has supported his company Amazon which he has called a gigantic lottery which he won. He can now give back to the world the precious Amazon by buying it and setting it up as an international preserve. Bolsonaro, president of Brazil, would respond to the right price. Over the summer Mr. Bezos spent around $5.5 billion to be in space for 4 minutes. From this perspective of earth he must have had some revelation as to its value and fragility. His worth is approximately $200 billion. The whole world would benefit if he were to be convinced by this petition to take action now. The unique flora and fauna of this most amazing of earth's ecosystems would have a chance to continue living on earth, and the indigenous tribes who have the most to lose might retain their home, livlihood, and culture.
It would appear that buying the entire Amazonian rainforest would give us the best chance to save it. Where would such an amount of money come from if not from Jeff Bezos?
