Instagram focus on your users. Not your buyers!

We are campaigning against how Instagram doesn’t do enough for its users’ mental health. They promote unrealistic and heavily altered ads that have a big impact on young users' self-esteem and self-image.

This is a growing problem with the rise of social media, Instagram being one of the biggest social media platforms.
In order for Instagram users’ mental health to improve, we have a list of
demands

  • Instagram should limit the amount of heavily filtered ads and the likes that an ad gets so if people do encounter this ad, it doesn’t make them believe that the image is a standard.
  • Label posts that are filtered or altered so that users don't think it's a real picture
  • Have an age limit on users that way the younger generation doesn't get affected
  • Prevent influencers/celebrities from promoting unhealthy products or products that involve weight loss and body image

This campaign matters to us because being college students, we want to interact and make new friends online, especially since the Covid-19 pandemic has interrupted our social interactions. Through our research, we’ve seen that although social media helps people connect, it is also a big cause of mental illness and low self-esteem. We want to raise awareness, not only with Instagram users, but also Instagram executives so they know this is a problem that is happening on their platform.

Help us fight for what matters - sign our petition now.
