The 71st Precinct has been used as a tool of oppression and suppression of MTOPP and FLAC
The 71st Precinct has been used as a tool of oppression and suppression of the Movement to Protect the People “MTOPP” and Flower Lovers Against Corruption's work to prevent the systematic displacement of the people and protection of our public green spaces. Our leaders have been arrested time and time again in violation of their first amendment rights to assemble, to peacefully protest and to impact and influence our local government via Community Boards. Each time we call the community to come out to attend meetings, the police surround us with threats of arrests, with paddy wagons standing by to haul us to jail, despite no laws ever having been broken.
Now is the time to stop these racist and oppressive behaviors by the Police.

We the people sign this petition and put forth the following:
Demands to the 71st Precinct:
  • Meet with the commanding officer.
  • End the over-policing at community board meetings.
  •  Reform the police community council meetings; actually meet with chiefs; youth and victims of police brutality should be on council, and remove current longtime do-nothing members.
  • Notify community every time a new officer enters the precinct and state any publicly available information on them.
  •  Adhere to Temporary Restraining Orders in community.
  • Remove any officer with 3 or more complaints from direct community interaction.
  • End racially discriminatory policing, special treatment of particular community residents, the number of officers present, excessive use of force, and verbal altercations.
  • Engage in meetings regarding reoccurring issues in the community.
  • Engage in Social Service partnerships.
