The under-signatory organisations below are calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Awfaa Al-Naami, a Yemeni woman peacemaker and human rights defender. Awfaa Al-Naami is the Country Manager of Saferworld in Yemen and member of the Women Solidarity Network. She has been working relentlessly on peace-building and women's rights for the past couple of years since the war broke in Yemen.
On 28th January, the Houthi controlled National Security in Sana'a, Yemen, requested a meeting with Awfaa Al-Naami to discuss the work related to Saferworld. She went into the building at 12 noon and was not released since. This incident is not the first, as the civil society space in areas under the Houthi control is shrinking, with more imposed restrictions, and increased targeting of women.
We urge the international community and specifically states sponsoring the peace process in Yemen, as well as, the UN Special Envoy, to push and facilitate her safe and immediate release.
ندعو للإفراج الفوري وغير المشروط عن أوفى النعامي، عضوة شبكة التضامن النسوي ومديرة مكتب اليمن لمنظمة سيفرورلد. وقد عملت أوفى على مدى السنوات الماضية لتعزيزالسلام و حقوق النساء في اليمن.
وفي يوم الإثنين الموافق 28 يناير 2019، طلب الأمن القومي في صنعاء والتابع لجماعة الحوثي، الإجتماع بأوفى النعامي لمناقشة أعمال المنظمة، ومنذ ذهابها للاجتماع الساعة 12 ظهرا الى يومنا هذا لم يتم اطلاق سراحها. وهذه ليست الحالة الأولى، فمجال العمل في المجتمع المدني اصبح ضيقا عبر فرض العديد من القيود واستهدفت النساء بشكل خاص.
وعليه نطالب من المجتمع الدولي وخصوصا الدول الراعية لعملية السلام في اليمن، والمبعوث الخاص للأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، بتسخير جهودهم للضغط وتسهيل عملية الإفراج الفوري والآمن لأوفى النعامي.
