Mr. S. Yatimov, Chairperson of Tajikistan National Security Committee

Alexander Sodiqov is being wrongfully accused of espionage by the Tajikistan government. He was arrested while conducting interviews as a researcher on contract for the University of Exeter (UK) College of Social Sciences and International Studies, on a project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council called 'Rising Powers and Conflict Management in Central Asia', after interviewing Alim Sherzamonov, a local opposition leader. Alexander Sodiqov is also a graduate student at the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto. In democratic societies, scholars and scientists have the freedom to do their research without fear.
