Since time immemorial, the Nása Mountain has been used as grazing pastures by reindeer herding Saami in northern Norway/Sweden (Sápmi) where Saami have co-existed peacefully with nature. Now A Chinese-owned company Elkem AS threatens to ruin the ecological balance and the indigenous way of life in the area. Elkem is planning to start up a destructive mine on top of the Nása mountain which will drive off indigenous reindeer husbandry from the area. The location of the mine on top of the mountain threatens to contaminate water and soil with poisoned mining waste for future generations. Send a clear signal to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries that it is time for Norway to live up to international conventions on indigenous peoples rights. Help us, Svaipa Sameby, Grans sameby, Semisjaur Njarg Sameby and Saltfjell renbetesdistrikt to preserve indigenous lifestyle, biodiversity, and clean water in the area by signing the petition and supporting the Nása moratorium.
