HIS MAJESTY KING MOHAMMED VI THE KING OF MOROCCO
Your Majesty.

king of Morocco. my king

In November 2019, the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior and the Health Minister announced an agreement made with ONSSA to end the culling of street dogs and instead to utilise a Trap-Vaccinate-Neuter-Release (TVNR) programme across the country.

The agreement stated that they would no longer use old methods of shooting and poisoning to control the dog population, but rather a more humane approach would be taken. Street dogs would be captured, vaccinated against rabies and other diseases, sterilised and then released into their environment with an identifying ear tag so everyone would know that these dogs are free from disease.

This is not happening!

There have been many reports in recent years of the cold-blooded massacre of many street dogs, often in broad daylight in front of people with their children who look on horrified as men armed with guns create blood baths.

Within the last week, in Boumalne Dades, many dogs, including females still feeding their young, were slaughtered and thrown into a pit, some still alive and suffering. The puppies of the lactating females were alive and crying out for their mothers whilst being hurled into the pit too, buried alive alongside the bodies of their mothers and the other innocent dogs. How can this ever be right? It is shameful!

We implore you, Your Majesty, to intervene and stop these barbaric practices. We do not want Morocco to be known all over the world as a country that allows such evil happenings to take place.

There is an option: Please do as you said you would and implement the catch-Vaccinate-Neuter-Release (CVNR) programme described above. In this way, the dog population will be controlled in a humane manner without resorting to methods that are barbaric.

Please, Your Majesty, listen to us and take the necessary action. We know that you love animals too, especially dogs.

Thank you.
