BC Minister of Environment, Hon. Mary Polak: Open the Garibaldi Park Master Plan and Stop Garibaldi at Squamish Resort

Garibaldi Park is one of the crown jewels of the park system. The 1990 Garibaldi Park Master Plan was intended to last only 5 years yet is still current in 2016. BC Parks has failed to protect the park from commercialization and private interests. Over 32 square kilometers has already been permanently lost from Garibaldi Park since 1966 to accommodate commercial ski development at Whistler-Blackcomb. And now, Garibaldi at Squamish is using the same template to grab its own piece of the pie. It is time for a new master plan (as proposed by GaribaldiPark2020.com); one that reflects the desires of the citizens of B.C. and the vision and traditional values of the park founders and one where non-mechanized outdoor recreation and trail construction are considered paramount above other values.
