DINAMA (Direccion Nacional de Medio Ambiente) Uruguay
The Quebrada de los Cuervos, founded in 2008, is the oldest and most beautiful national park of Uruguay. It is the home of many endangered species and especially a sanctuary of numerous birds which are worldwide on the verge of extinction. It is a living seed bank with a unique gene pool.
There is a project of ANCAP, the state company producing fuels, alcohol and cement, to build a calcite mine very close to this National Park, which will drastically affect the natural habitat of these species. It will scare away birds, mammals and insects and can affect the waterways and the quality of the water. Uruguay is famous for its superior water quality and promotes itself with the slogan "Uruguay Natural". Therefore we appeal to the ministry of environment to stand for this statement and deny the permission to ANCAP to open the calcite mine close to the Natural Reservation Quebrada de los Cuervos.
