Thank you for signing the petition. The city is making changes to the intersection and crosswalk. We are thankful and appreciative to the city of Irvine, Irvine Mayor, Donald P. Wagner and everyone who took the time to sign.

We are asking the City of Irvine for&colon

  • Protective left turn signals (green arrows) to be installed at the intersection of Paseo Westpark and San Remo, located near the Edwards theatre and Sprouts in Irvine. A green arrow in each left turn lane, total of 4.
  • Large bright colored pedestrian crosswalks, pedestrian signs and flashing lights installed on all 4 cross walks.
  • 1 sign southbound on Paseo Westpark reminding motorists to slow down for pedestrians as they approach San Remo/ Paseo Westpark.

This is a dangerous intersection, with car crashes, injuries and close calls. The fatal motorcycle crash on Feb. 5th, 2018 needs to be the last one.

Hundreds of people live near this intersection and many walk the intersection daily, including parents with babies in strollers, children on bikes and seniors with walkers. Motorists must be made aware. They are busy and distracted, unaware of people in crosswalks, the right of way, and often no understanding that a green light while turning left means yield. Daily occurrences for nearby residences include tires screeching, honking, drivers yelling after near misses, speed racing south and northbound on Paseo Westpark (near the riverbed and Target), metal crashing, followed by sirens, ambulances, fire rescue, police and tow trucks.

This must stop. The pain, suffering, and loss is too much to witness.

Please sign, we ask the City of Irvine to take immediate action. This petition will reach Irvine Mayor, Donald P. Wagner, Mayor Pro Tem, Christina L. Shea, Councilmembers; Melissa Fox, Jeffrey Lalloway and Lynn Schott. Director of Transportation, Mark Linsenmayer
