Imprison the "Guilty" bankers and break up the "too big to fail" banks.
Five major international banks, pleaded guilty to felony charges
for helping to manipulate global foreign exchange markets,
The rigging of global foreign exchange rates is only the latest in
a string of crimes, frauds and criminal conspiracies. As a result of these crimes perpetrated by
the “too big to fail banks”, over the past decade: millions of people have had their homes
foreclosed, millions more have lost their jobs, poverty has increased, pensions decimated, people's savings stolen,
free higher education abolished, municipalities have been swindled out of billions of
dollars and much, much, more.
Meanwhile the financial oligarchy and the state officials who
defend their interests are effectively immune from prosecution. A worker can be thrown in jail for failing to
show up for a court date, while bankers who steal billions of dollars get off
scot-free.
Financial regulators have released voluminous records in
connection with the foreign exchange scandal, showing how brazenly and openly
bank traders discussed rigging currency rates, even as they knew their
employers were being investigated for similar activities with regard to LIBOR. In exchange for their services, top
financial regulators are almost universally provided with high-paying positions
in Wall Street etc..., after their stints with their respective governments. Most notably, Ben Bernanke, the former
Federal Reserve chairman who funneled trillions of dollars in government funds
to Wall Street, who announced last month that he has been hired by
Chicago-based hedge fund Citadel LLC. This followed the announcement in
November 2013 that former Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner joined the hedge
fund Warburg Pincus.
To this day, not a single executive at
any major bank has been criminally prosecuted for helping to cause the
financial crisis, or any of the crimes that followed. I, therefore, call upon the Attorney General to impose an appropriate prison sentence, forthwith, for the "Guilty" bankers.
