Driving ban for women
Dear
friends,
did you know that women are banned from driving in Saudi Arabia? It is not a question
of religion or law. But what is it then? Can we
change it?
Government officials say the ban is in effect because it accords with the
wishes of society in the conservative kingdom. Female driving could lead to
Western-style openness and be the first step in the erosion of traditional
values.
However, the ban will not safeguard the alleged traditional values. It rather will have the opposite effect, since ongoing discrimination - that's what it is in reality - leads increasingly to radicalization.
King Abdullah
is said to support a woman’s right to drive when the society is ready for it.
But when will that be if nothing is done to make it come true?
Let's be solidary with Saudi women. Now is the best moment to help them.
Sign the petition and share it.
Together we can make King Abdullah lift the ban.
With hope and determination
