PRIME MINSTER OF PAKISTAN: DO NOT SELL NARC LAND TO LAND MAFIA IT IS AGRICULTURAL SUICIED

PAKISTANI AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITY (FARMERS,STUDENT SCIENTISTS EXTENSION WORKERS ..EVERY BODY RELATED TO AGRICULTURE BUSINESS SCIENCE ART & CULTURE ICT'S GROUP & All employees and Scientists of NARC request you that in light of the following facts, National Agricultural Research Center, an Institution of International stature and importance shall not be replaced with a housing society:

• Agriculture is the backbone of our economy that contributes 24% to GDP and provides employment to 45% of population. Food security is more important than nuclear weapons, as for instance, Russia had atom bomb and they were also successful in putting man on the moon, however, it collapsed due to shortage of grains.
• Today, many organizations in Pakistan are in crisis such as Steel Mills, PIA, Railways, WAPDA and SNGPL. However, there is no crisis in agriculture and food sector. It is due to the painstaking efforts of PARC scientists.
• NARC is a national asset, which is considered to be one of the best agricultural research institutes of the world. This organization is playing key role in increasing food security and economic development of Pakistan. More than 200 PhD scientists and 2000 other employees are working in this prestigious organization. It is providing training to the farmers and extension workers of Pakistan. Moreover, many international research organizations such as FAO, IRRI, AVRDC, ILRI, CIMMYT, JICA, ICARDA and ICIMOD have established camp offices in NARC after getting approval from the government of Pakistan. NARC is contributing billions of rupees to the national economy, following are a few examples:

v  Rust free wheat varieties (1980 to 2015) (Rs. 58 billion per annul) = Rs. 2000 billion  National Reference Laboratory for Poultry Diseases (2006 to 2015) = Rs. 90 billion Pakistan has attained the status of honey exporting country (1980 to 2015) = Rs. 50 billion Developed and commercialized more than thirty farm machinery = Rs. 40 billionv  Developed state of the art ‘Plant Genetic Resources Institute’ and ‘Gene Bank’ having more than 35000 Germ-Plasm. This Gene Bank has capacity to keep/store even more Germ-Plasm. The whole world is getting benefit from this facility.v  Established ‘National Reference Laboratory for Poultry Diseases’ that has i) the honor to make Pakistan Bird Flu free country, and ii) developed the vaccine against the highly fatal poultry disease ‘Hydropericardium syndrom’ that has saved the poultry industry of Pakistan.v  Established the one and only ISO certified ‘Grain Quality Lab’ in Pakistan.v  NARC has more than technologies that can be easily transferred to the stakeholders within no time, and the farming community may get the benefit.

• We humbly appeal Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, that keeping in view the national interest and importance of food security, the decision of Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto (Shaheed), the then Prime Minister of Pakistan be maintained, and institute of international stature i.e. NARC may not be replaced with housing society. It is pertinent to mention here that the National Agricultural Research Centers of various countries of the world are located in their capital city, such as Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) is located in New Delhi, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Center (BARC) is located in Dhaka, and Nepal Agricultural Research Center (NARC) is located in Khatmandu.
• In view of the above, we earnestly request the Parliamentarians of Pakistan to raise questions for the survival of NARC in National Assembly and Senate of Pakistan.
