This petition has the potential to help not only me, but women all over Saskatchewan and Canada who suffer from "endo"

Endometriosis costs the Canadian government over 1 billion per year, takes over countless lives', and affects health care, the economy, and more importantly individuals. In Saskatchewan, and indeed across Canada, women are subjected to mishandling of care due to misinformation, numerous surgeries because of lack of knowledge, and ridiculous wait times to see a specialist. These wait times can cause permanent damage, and indeed that was the case for me.

When I made the decision to go to the Center for Endometriosis Care in Atlanta, after the urging of a specialist in Alberta as well as my own doctors, I was quite literally lost on the waiting list in Canada. I was bedridden, recovering from surgery number 4 and in so much pain that I had to be on so much drug therapy that I do not remember months of my life. This was after almost 20 years of struggling, listening to doctor after doctor, trying "cure" after "cure". All the while, there were people who could help me, that I had to find on my own, get myself to, and pay for.

Saskatchewan, and Canada, needs to understand that, especially in extreme cases, they can ask for help. They need to feel confident sending women to world-renowned treatment centers while they better our own level of care by developing centers, specialists, and appropriate therapies. I lost years of my life because I believed that what I was getting was the best, when that was so very far from the truth. My case can set a precedent for women of Saskatchewan, and even Canada-wide, forcing the government to acknowledge the urgency and importance of this disease (which is more common than diabetes and heart disease), and the need for access to better care.

I believe.
