The Council of Washington DC (Committee on the Judiciary): Move Forward on Legislation to Ban Ivory Sales in Washington DC

The Council of Washington DC (Judiciary Committee)
In June 2015, Washington DC took an important step forward for elephants when Councilmember Mary Cheh introduced legislation that would ban ivory and rhino horn sales in our nation's capital city.
However, one year later, the Council has still not taken action on advancing this important bill, despite several other councilmembers signing on as co-sponsors.
At a moment when elephants are being killed faster than they're being born, we don't have the luxury of time. 96 elephants die each day to feed the demand of the global ivory trade, and extinction is around the corner.
Help us encourage Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, chair of DC's Judiciary Committee, to hold a hearing on the Elephant Ivory and Rhinoceros Horn Trafficking Prohibition Act of 2015 (B21-0251). Holding a hearing is the next critical step in making sure this proposed bill becomes reality.
Washington, DC, has an opportunity to join states like New Jersey, New York, Washington, California and soon Hawaii as a leader in the fight against the global ivory trade.
Banning ivory sales here in our nation's capital will send a powerful message to China and the world that we will have no part in elephant extinction, and no part in the brutal ivory trade that funds terrorist networks and destroys lives.
Please specify if you are a DC citizen when signing if possible -- but all signatures from all over the world are welcome!
Together, we can take a stand and make a difference, and make sure that elephants are still around for future generations to love as much as we do.
