The Federal Communications Commission & the U.S. Congress
Right now, the Federal Communications Commission is considering a proposal to require manufacturers to lock down computing devices (routers, PCs, phones) to prevent modification if they have a "modular wireless radio" or a device with an "electronic label". The rules would likely forbid any change that resellers, investigators, teachers and final user want to make to these devices, like changing the operative system of your PC or to research into mesh networking, even if these changes are not meant to cause harm .

Not being able to make changes to our devices, or to develop high mesh networks to assist emergency personnel in disasters, are issues that threat our technology freedom and our development as a society . And because a lot of technology producers are based in the U.S., if this proposal becomes law, the rest of the world freedom will be attacked too.

We need to stop this proposal. Please sign the petition and share it, to show the FCC that we want to preserve our wireless freedom.
