The Government of Malaysia

As we have now discovered, thousands of Rohingya refugees are trapped on boats without food and water for months and are not being let to come to shore. The situation is worsened by the bad conditions of boats that they are trapped in, and if no action is taken, lifeless emaciated bodies will emerge on our shores.

We believe that Malaysia, as a compassionate and caring neighbour and a merciful Muslim-majority country, has a responsibility to help our brothers and sisters, mothers, and children who are stuck out at sea. We must show them that hope continues to exist.

Therefore we propose the following:

a) Malaysian government to provide temporary settlement to address the immediate crisis of the Rohingyas adrift in the Andaman waters.

b) Utilise Malaysia’s capacity as the Chair of ASEAN to employ available regional and international channels, and initiate a regional consensus between Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar to address the Rohingya situation from a humanitarian perspective
