The Provincial Government of British Columbia
Those living on the coasts of British Columbia are fortunate to have a vibrant and healthy eco system. This health and vibrancy is being threatened by the under regulated harvesting of seaweed on B.C. coastlines. Without consulting local residents, local political leaders and without an environmental impact assessment, the B.C. Ministry of Agriculture sold seaweed harvesting licenses to private companies.

The harvesting is being done in direct violation of federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans regulations.

When a public discussion was held, led by local politicians and concerned scientists, it was concluded that there was a high risk of damaging the local food web and spawning habitat of numerous species.

We cannot afford to stand idly by as yet another project places short term financial gains before long term ecological health. Please sign our petition demanding the government of British Columbia put a moratorium on the commercial harvesting of seaweed, until adequate environmental impact research is conducted. Thank you.
