El desmonte del predio para construir estacionamientos está destruyendo flora nativa del colchón de amortiguación que protege la Reserva Natural Costanera Norte.
Reduce la reserva a un pequeño espacio supuestamente protegido, a metros de un área de alto impacto ambiental.
Durante 7 años trabajamos entre estudiantes, docentes, vecinos y organizaciones sin fines de lucro para recuperar el espacio natural, colchon amortiguador de la Reserva Natural Costanera Norte .
Plantamos más de 300 árboles frutales, más de 50 variedades de árboles nativos, limpiamos y cuidamos el pantano natural y el bosque.
Verde o Gris?
Además de limpiar y proteger la zona, hemos desarrollado un centro interdisciplinario de educación ambiental al cual hemos llamado Velatropa, donde la gente se congrega para compartir su amor y conocimiento sobre la naturaleza. Decenas de jardines infantiles, escuelas primarias y secundarias, así como estudiantes de la UBA y otras universidades nos visitan día a día para compartir conocimientos sobre bioconstrucción, arquitectura arbórea, huerta orgánica, energías renovables, arte con materiales reciclados, filtros naturales de aguas, plantas silvestres comestibles, entre otros. Cabe mencionar que todos los talleres son autogestionados, abiertos y gratuitos, nunca se ha cobrado taller alguno. Así Velatropa se tornó en un lugar donde la gente se reúne a experimentar y crear una nueva forma de vida, generando un entorno sustentable donde los seres humanos viven en armonía con la naturaleza en vez de en contra de ella.
Por esto no podemos aceptar que todos esta vegetación que cuidamos, y todas las semillas que hemos plantado para crear un futuro más sostenible tengan que ser desterradas para dar lugar a un estacionamiento. Palas hidráulicas ya han empezado a sacar arboles para “limpiar” la entrada a las topadoras, con las que quieren tirar abajo todos los arboles y destruir la vegetación para remplazarla luego con asfalto.
Pero aquí estamos decididos a defender la naturaleza. Frente al avance de las palas hidráulicas, hemos armado un picnic pacífico permanente para resistir y detener los trabajos de destrucción que quieren lleva a cabo. Si estás en Buenos aires o en las cercanías, pues solo ven y sumate! Estaremos ofreciendo diferentes talleres (huerta orgánica, mecánica de bicicletas, malabares, entre otros), haciendo poesía, música, bailando, compartiendo mates y ricas ollas comunitarias veganas! The clearing of land for the construction of further parking lots on the campus is destroying the native flora of the buffer zone protecting the natural reserve Costanera Norte which will be reduced in its size to a smaller – purportedly protected – area only a few meters away from a massive human intervention into nature.
During the past seven years, we – a group of students, teachers, neighbors, educators and people from nonprofit organizations – have put a lot of energy in restoring the natural environment of the green belt which nowadays serves as a buffer zone to protect the natural reserve Costanera Norte from nearby human interventions into nature. Before our arrival, the area was used as a waste dump which we have cleaned from all the rubbish in order to restore and preserve its former natural state. Furthermore, we have planted more than 300 fruit trees (banana, avocado, pear, apple, fig, lemon, olive, date, nut, plum trees among others) and more than 50 species of native trees.
Besides our nature preservation activities, we have build up an environmental educational centre called Velatropa where people meet to share their love and knowledge about nature. Groups of pupils, university students, neighbours and travellers frequently visit us to learn about bio-construction on earth and trees, organic farming, renewable energies, arts with recycled materials, natural healing methods and treatments, botany, and natural water treatment among others – of course all the workshops are self-organized and free of charge. Velatropa has become a place where people are experimenting and creating a new way of life – a sustainable future in which humans live together rather than against nature.
This is why we cannot accept that all the trees and plants that are growing there and all the seeds we have sown for a sustainable future will have to make way for further parking lots. Bulldozers have already started to seal the entrance into the forested areas in order to “clear” the way for bigger machines that will tear down all the trees and destroy the vegetation in order to replace it with asphalt.
But we are here – decided to defend nature. In front of the bulldozers we are having a “pacific permanent picknick” resisting and barring the way in order to stop the destruction work. If you are in Buenos Aires, Argentina, or somewhere close, come along and join us! We are having different workshops (organic farming, bicycle repair, juggling, among others), cooking vegan food, making music and dancing against the bulldozer blades. If you are far away, you can also support us by signing this petition and/or, for example, by sending us a foto or video of you sharing your solidarity with us.
