Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture: Stop the competition "Humanitarian Refugee Center"

The Association of Collegiate School of Structures ‐ ACSA organize an architectural competition for student to design a " Humanitarian Refugee Center " for migrants, which was first called a "Humanitarian Detention Centre". Following our first observations, the title was changed but the program still includes such "humanitarian" features as holding cells, detention areas and "secure walking areas." There is a violent contradiction in the terms which has to be denounced, as much as architecture lovers, architects, students or as scholars in architecture: Articles 13 and 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights assure the freedom of movement of the people : To associate the Humanitarian term to that of the Detention center thus establishes a particularly perverse oxymoron.
