1. Volgens de regels van het FAVV mag een kat pas na drie maanden afzondering in België ingevoerd worden. Dat was door corona onmogelijk. 
2. Die repatriëringsvlucht was de laatste kans om thuis te geraken. Van de ambassade kreeg Selena Ali toelating om haar katje Lee mee te nemen op het vliegtuig.”Opgelucht dat ze veilig thuis in Stabroek was geraakt vertelde Selena over haar lievelingskatje Lee in de media. 
3. Dat trok de aandacht van inspecteurs van het Federaal Agentschap voor de Voedsel Veiligheid (FAVV). Woordvoerster Hélène Bonte (FAVV): “Wij hadden Selena voor haar vertrek in Peru al verwittigd dat het katje Lee niet mee mocht komen. De geschiedenis van Lee is te onduidelijk om zeker te zijn dat het dier volledig hondsdol-vrij is. Peru is een hoogrisicoland voor hondsdolheid. Het is een dodelijke ziekte die overgaat van dier op de mens. België is hondsdol-vrij sinds 2001 maar de overheid blijft waakzaam en heeft het FAVV aangesteld om de invoer van dieren te controleren. Wij hanteren daarvoor een Europese richtlijn.
4. ”Eind april viel een brief van het FAVV bij Selena in de bus. De aanhef (in vette letters) luidt als volgt: “Besluit tot euthanasie van een kat die op niet-conforme wijze in België is binnengebracht.”  “Door de coronacrisis kan de kat niet meer teruggestuurd worden naar Peru. Euthanasie is de enige oplossing om het sanitaire risico dat uw dier inhoudt te beheersen”, laat FAVV weten. 
5. Selena moet ten laatste maandag 11 mei haar katje Lee bij een dierenarts laten inslapen. De dierenarts moet het kadaver opsturen aan het instituut Sciensano waar een hersenonderzoek moet uitsluitsel bieden of katje Lee al dan niet met hondsdolheid was besmet. 
6. Selena Ali liet extra bloedonderzoeken uitvoeren, zorgde voor bijkomende vaccinaties en houdt Lee al wekenlang in quarantaine in een appartement waar alleen zij woont. 
7. Volgens de geraadpleegde dierenartsen is Lee helemaal gezond en zijn er geen sporen van hondsdolheid.Selena: “Mijn advocaat Anthony Godfroid heeft voor mij de beslissing tot euthanasie aangevochten bij de Raad van State. De streek van Cuzco waar ik zat, is al tien jaar ‘rabiës-vrij’. Ook het kattenhotel waar mijn katje Lee werd opgevangen heeft nog nooit gevallen van hondsdolheid meegemaakt. Helaas kijken die rechters enkel naar de procedure en geven FAVV gelijk. Ook de ambassade die mij aanvankelijk toestemming gaf om Lee mee te nemen op het vliegtuig, heeft zijn kar gekeerd. “Wij hebben het afgeraden”, zegt de ambassade nu. Ik tel de uren af naar maandag, naar de mogelijke euth....(aarzelt) sorry, ik kan het woord niet over mijn lippen krijgen.” 
8. Via sociale media kwam Selena in contact met districtsburgemeester en voormalig schepen voor Dierenwelzijn van de stad Antwerpen Luc Bungeneers van Merksem. Hij is niet te spreken over de hardnekkigheid van de inspecteurs van het FAVV. Luc Bungeneers: “De broodfokkers met linken naar Oost-Europa laat het FAVV ongemoeid maar ocharme één zielig katje uit Peru daar gaat die inspectie vol achteraan. Dat gaat mij te ver. Selena is het slachtoffer geworden van de coronacrisis waardoor zij eerder dan voorzien uit Peru moest terugkeren. Haar lievelingskatje Lee dreigt dat met de dood te bekopen . Ik heb parlementslid Frieda Gijbels (N-VA) ingeschakeld om uitleg te vragen aan het FAVV. Een beetje menselijkheid is toch niets te veel gevraagd in deze moeilijke tijden.” ________________________________________________

La Belgique est indemne de rage depuis 2001, mais le gouvernement reste vigilant et a nommé l'AFSCA pour contrôler les importations d'animaux. Nous utilisons pour cela une directive européenne.
4. »Fin avril, une lettre de l'AFSCA est arrivée à Selena. Les premiers mots (en gras) sont les suivants: «Décision d'euthanasier un chat qui a été introduit en Belgique de manière non conforme.» «En raison de la crise corona, le chat ne peut plus être renvoyé au Pérou. L'euthanasie est la seule solution pour contrôler le risque sanitaire que pose votre animal », explique l'AFSCA.
5. Selena doit mettre son chaton Lee chez le vétérinaire au plus tard le lundi 11 mai. Le vétérinaire doit envoyer le cadavre à l'institut Sciensano, où un examen cérébral doit déterminer si le chaton Lee a été infecté ou non par la rage.
6. Selena Ali a subi des tests sanguins supplémentaires, des vaccinations supplémentaires et Lee a été mise en quarantaine pendant des semaines dans un appartement où elle vit seule.
7. Selon les vétérinaires consultés, Lee est en parfaite santé et il n'y a aucun signe de rage. Il n'est pas satisfait de la persistance des inspecteurs de l'AFSCA. Luc Bungeneers: «Les éleveurs de pain ayant des liens avec l'Europe de l'Est laissent l'AFSCA inchangé, mais pauvre un pitoyable chat du Pérou, cette inspection se poursuit après cela. Cela va trop loin pour moi. Selena a été victime de la crise corona qui l'a forcée à rentrer du Pérou plus tôt que prévu. Son chaton préféré Lee menace de le payer à mort. J'ai fait venir la députée Frieda Gijbels (N-VA) pour demander des explications à l'AFSCA. Un peu d'humanité n'est pas trop demander en ces temps difficiles. »

5.   Selena is due to put her kitten Lee to a vet on Monday, May 11. The veterinarian must send the cadaver to the Institute sciensano   where a brain examination must determine whether or not kitten Lee was infected with rabies.
6.   Selena Ali had extra blood tests performed, provided additional vaccinations and has been quarantined for weeks in an apartment where she lives alone.
7.   According to the vets consulted, Lee is completely healthy and there are no signs of rabies. Selena: "My lawyer Anthony Godfroid challenged the decision to euthanasia for me at the Council of State. The cuzco region where I sat has been rabies-free for ten years. Also the cat hotel where my kitten Lee was taken care of has never experienced cases of rabies. Unfortunately, these judges only look at the procedure and agree with FAVV. The embassy that initially gave me permission to take Lee on the plane has also turned its cart. "We have not guessed it," the embassy says now.
