Stob Ebola: Reopen Goma airport

Presidents Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Paul Kagame of Rwanda:

Innocent people are trapped between war and Ebola, dying while doctors and emergency aid struggle to reach them. Reopen Goma airport now and help stop this devastating virus from spreading further. The whole world is watching.

____________

This is how the Ebola outbreak gets out of control.

An elderly man felt ill and travelled hundreds of kilometres across the border to seek medical care. He died far from home three days later, and his autopsy confirmed the worst: a devastating species of Ebola virus.

There is no treatment or vaccine available, and tests often miss it. We need to respond as fast as possible to contain the outbreak. The international community is sending in urgent aid, but the main regional airport is still closed because of the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Now Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr Denis Mukwege is calling for Goma airport to reopen. This vital humanitarian hub has been at the epicentre of the war, and its continued closure is turning the region into a black box where Ebola can thrive and spread to Rwanda and Uganda. That’s why we need to supercharge his call: sign and share now -- the faster Goma reopens, the more lives can be saved.
