Stop the war on women
Stop the war on women

To world leaders:

Wherever we look, we see women and girls being hurt or killed by those closest to them. Thousands die each year. As global citizens, we refuse to stand by any longer. Ending this brutal cycle of violence requires bold action: education, prevention, protection—and above all courage. There is no better time than now, and no better place than here. It's time to end the war on women.

Last month, Rebecca fulfilled her dream as an athlete when she ran the marathon at the Paris Olympics.

But when she came home, her partner set her on fire after dousing her with gasoline. With 80% of her body burned in the attack, she died after four agonising days in the hospital.

This tragedy is all too common: Rebecca knew her murderer, and her family said they had reported him to the police. In Kenya alone, she’s the third elite athlete to be killed by femicide in three years. How many more must die before the world finally wakes up?

This ends now -- and the solution starts with us: in just two weeks, world leaders will meet for the biggest summit of the year -- and if enough of us sign and share this call, Avaaz can hold them accountable and demand they finally commit to confront deadly violence against women during their big UN speeches. We don’t have much time: join and share now.
