Bees vs Lobbyists
Bees vs Lobbyists

To all EU Agriculture and Environment Ministers:

As citizens concerned about the fate of our pollinators, we call on you to protect our bees, reject any watered down version of the 2013 Bee Guidance, and allow for no more than 7% mortality of pollinators due to pesticide use. We urge you to put the protection of wild bees first, they are more vulnerable than honey bees and when they are protected, all bees are protected. Listen to independent scientists and bee stakeholders, and reject any approach that puts the interests of the pesticide giants before pollinators.

EU Ministers are about to decide how many bees are allowed to die from pesticide use. Pesticide giant Syngenta is lobbying hard for a proposal that will allow for up to 20% bee mortality, while scientists warn that anything above 7% is irresponsible if we want to guarantee the future of bees and our food supply.

A few months ago the EU tried to get the Syngenta proposal passed behind closed doors, but bee protectors across Europe, including Avaazers, jumped into action and the vote was postponed. So we know public pressure works, and just weeks ago Avaazers in the Netherlands wrote thousands of letters and convinced their Minister to listen to the advice of scientists.

Let’s get other member states on board too. Sign now and share widely and Avaaz will take our voices directly to Ministers when they meet in days. Let’s create a buzzzz!!
