Add your name using the form, and then help make the campaign huge by sharing this with everyone you know (it's already on track to be the biggest ECI, ever -- let's make it happen!)
. Every signature counts.
Animals on fur farms suffer from self-mutilation, infected wounds, missing limbs and cannibalism. Fur farming contravenes even the most basic concept of animal welfare. Numerous outbreaks of SARS-CoV-2 on mink farms have highlighted the public health risks associated with the production of fur.
Echoing the calls from many Member States this initiative
urges
the EU Commission to prohibit
the
keeping and killing of animals for the sole or main purpose of fur production; as well as the placement of farmed animal fur,
and products containing such fur, on the EU market.
This initiative looks different from "usual" Avaaz petitions and asks for more personal data
in order to record your support for this official EU citizens initiative. For some EU countries, signers will be required to fill in their personal identification (ID) number. If you’re not sure what that is or where to find it, you can get further information
here
.
More information:
Fur farming is inherently cruel and not only leads to the needless suffering of millions of animals but also poses a public health risk, as numerous outbreaks of covid on fur farms have shown. The practice is widely rejected by EU citizens and banned in several EU countries. However, the partial ban only increases the profits of fur farms in those countries that still allow the practice. Now EU citizens are calling on the EU Commission to ban both the keeping of animals for fur production and the trade with animal fur on the EU market.
