The government is about to push a dangerous new law aimed at silencing dissenting voices in the country. Let's not be intimidated -- together we can still stop it.
The proposed law means any NGO getting more than EUR 23,300 per year in donations from outside Hungary must publicly declare itself to be a ‘foreign agent’ or face fines, even if the majority of their funding is domestic. It's an attempt to stigmatise environmental, human rights, and anti-corruption organisations, and is a replica of a law Putin used in Russia to erode public trust in civil society.
But in days the European Parliament will debate this issue, and if enough of us raise voices, we can persuade the MEPs -- including Orban's important EU allies -- to adopt a resolution that condemns the law and forces the government to reconsider their undemocratic plans.
Join now and tell everyone -- members of human rights group Liberties will deliver our voices directly to the MEPs just before the plenary.
