This is Israel’s far right minister Ben-Gvir, who has championed a push for one of the most extreme death penalty laws in the world. And now, it’s passed.
Under this new law, Palestinians convicted of lethal attacks will be subjected to hanging - a method of execution so cruel and violent that it’s been abandoned by most of the world - within 90 days of sentencing and with no right to a pardon. Imagine toasting to that.
In occupied Palestine, where arbitrary arrests and torture are already common, this is a terrifying new law - and we must do what we can to stop it.
The death penalty is wrong in all circumstances -- and this is a position long held by the EU. They considered sanctioning Israel before, and they can do it again if we make this petition impossible to ignore.
