Let's win a real plan to save life on earth -- this week!

To world leaders:

We global citizens are deeply concerned by scientists warning that ecosystems critical to sustaining life on Earth could collapse in our lifetimes. We call on you to meet existing targets to protect biodiversity, forge a new agreement so that at least 50% of our lands and oceans are protected and restored, and ensure our planet is completely sustainably managed. This must take into consideration the needs of human development, and have the active support of indigenous peoples. This long-term goal for nature can restore harmony with our home.

My name is Gregorio Mirabal, from the Wakuenai Kurripako people in Venezuela.

I am writing to you personally today as the leader of more than 500 Indigenous nations across the Amazon. I am asking you to join us!

Days ago, I left my family and my home, and my mother the Amazon rainforest, to join the largest conservation summit in France, the IUCN, and brought an urgent call to protect 80% of the Amazon by 2025.

In days, our governments could not only make the Amazon a global priority, but also move towards protecting at least half of the Earth. Because we MUST protect all the forests, from the Amazon to Africa and Indonesia.

But nothing will happen if our leaders are still blinded by short-term political compromises -- and still refuse to act to stop our forests from burning, our rivers from dying and lead people to survival.

We’re only a handful of indigenous leaders here, but if millions of citizens from across the world back our call -- we can wake them up!

If you all join me now, I will personally deliver our voices at the IUCN Members Assembly, calling on them to protect our homelands and at least half the Earth -- it is a matter of survival.
