No one should ever be arrested for peaceful protest!
This weekend in London, 532 people were arrested for peacefully protesting against genocide in Gaza. Half were over 60 years old. And yet, videos show the police pressing protestors to the ground, knees on their necks.
That’s not what democracy looks like.
Last month, the government proscribed the group Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation - powers normally reserved for groups intending to cause death or serious injury to others. Even the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has warned this is a “disturbing” misuse of the legislation.
Let’s be clear: peaceful protest is not terrorism. Most of those arrested this weekend never caused criminal damage or threatened anyone. We cannot stand by and do nothing while our rights are crushed.
Add your name because this is not the Britain we want to live in - because we believe in the right to peaceful protest.
