The great global internet spy

Members of the US Congress:

As concerned global citizens, we urge you to immediately drop the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA). Our democracy and civil liberties are under threat from the excessive and unnecessary Internet surveillance powers it grants. The Internet is a crucial tool for people around the world to exchange ideas and work collectively to build the world we all want. We urge you to show true global leadership and do all you can to protect our Internet freedom.

The great global internet spy

Right now, extremists in the US Congress are pushing a law that would allow Facebook, Google and other Internet sites we visit to hand over our private sensitive data to the US military so they can spy on us. But an enormous global outcry stopped this before and now we can kill it for good.

The bill, CISPA, is the same law they tried to pass last year, only to back down in the face of public outrage. Purporting to strengthen “cybersecurity” by allowing private companies to share online activity that comes through their sites with the US government, it would shred our privacy and civil liberties. Our emails, photos, purchases, web searches and financial information could all be exposed -- and we’d never know.

And since the world’s web traffic flows through the US, we’re all at risk. But we stopped this before and can stop it again -- sign the petition to kill CISPA and when we hit 1 million, it’ll be delivered to the bill’s primary supporter, US House Intelligence Chair Mike Rogers.
