The role of Psychologists cannot be ignored
in Kenya, more so with the current COVID-19 pandemic that impacts negatively on
the mental wellbeing of the population. The government needs to employ Psychologist urgently. For this to happen, there need to be a scheme of
service. It is unfortunate the Ministry of Health presented a scheme of service
to the Public Service Commission for approval that is biased, discriminative
and ill informed. The Scheme purports to recognize Clinical Psychologists as
the only psychologists in Kenya.
1. We demand for review of the scheme and
process to be participatory to enable employment of Psychologist with the right
grading.
2. The ministry of Health to be compelled to edit the scheme to represent all Psychologists with stakeholder participation.
3. The Process to be expedited by employment of Psychologists at National and County Level.
