Anyone who cares about Animals
Addis Ababa zoo was founded in 1948 by Emperor Haile Selassie , and started off with a couple of lion cubs – Molla and Lulu – that were donated by the Emperor Haile Selassie. Lions collected from Western and Southern Ethiopia (Wollega, Elubabur and Sidamo), This establishment is a historic place transferred from generation to generation but recently the living condition of the lions and other animals is in danger due to Poor living condition like The smallness of the cages , the food and also the medical treatment they get . The lions are dying one by one and nobody seems to care .These animals once were the sign of Ethiopia and genetically distinct which makes them very attached to our nation and Personally I grew up visiting this animals . So I have a personal attachment to these magnificent creatures , any one who's raised in Addis Ababa can relate . The Zoo has been closed for almost 2 years for construction and better living condition for the animals but only 22% of the construction is finished . And recently 5 lions died due to the poor condition of the zoo the total number of lions in the zoo is decreasing there are only 10 lions remaining . All over Ethiopia the estimated number of lions is 2000 which is very low and on the verge of extinction .
