Most of the goods we buy are produced by impoverished people in under-developed nations.
Some industries have earned particular reputations for cruelty, for example, child slavery is common in cocoa production. This awareness sparked an explosion in certified Fair Trade chocolate, thus leading to promises from a number of major chocolate manufacturers to faze in fair trade practise.
2.7 billion people live on less than $2 per day (parity adjusted!), many are working extremely long hours, often in hazardous conditions. This is unacceptable.
All international trade must be ethical for a flourishing global economy in which no child need go hungry.
