Stop Sharia Law
International Campaign Against Islamic Misogyny and Sharia Law
Presently millions of women living in Islamic states or areas affected by Islamic movements are denied basic freedoms and therefore are fighting for their lives on a daily basis. In parts of Syria and Iraq, ultra extremist ISIS has begun a total and complete war against women. Under these patriarchal Islamist conditions, women who wish to leave their house without their husbands or a male family member are faced with the threat of stoning. These Islamist groups wish to trap and imprison women in their own homes. Women are forced to provide sexual services to ISIS Jihadist soldiers; those who refuse are executed. There have been unofficial reports that ISIS has ordered females ranging in age from 11 to 46, to undergo the despicable practice of female circumcision. Although some mainstream media have questioned this report; given the past actions of ISIS, the Campaign has chosen to take this very seriously.
In Iran, under the Islamic regime, with the threat of flogging, torture and stoning, women are excluded from employment opportunities, are denied higher education in many professions and are forced out of social spheres such as sports ( such as entering stadiums during sporting events). Under this regime hijab [Islamic dress] is imposed on female children (starting from five years of age). Despite the fact that millions of dollars are being spent on multiple government policing agencies by the Iranian government [collectively called Morality Police] to suppress, subjugate and punish women; in Iran women continue their resilient struggle against this misogynistic regime and gender apartheid.
In Sudan, women are suffering under the hands of police due to repressive Islamic laws. In Nigeria, Boko Haram [Nigeria’s Jihadists] kidnap young girls from their homes and subjugate them to repeated rape in order to convert the girls to Islam. Additionally, women caught without hijab are put to death in broad daylight. In Afghanistan, thousands of women have been killed by the Taliban who are well known for attacking young school girls in order to stop from going to school. In many instances the Taliban has used poison and fire against school age girls. In Tunisia, women are still struggling against Islamic laws for their rights to file for a divorce, have custody of their children and equal inheritance to male counterparts. Under Islamic Law, girls are legal for marriage at the age of nine to men as old as 50.
According to UNICEF July 2013 annual report on genital mutilation, Ninety-one percent of Egyptian women have had their genitals somehow injured in an attempt to curb sexuality and promote chastity and cleanliness. http://www.unicef.org/media/files/FGCM_Lo_res.pdf
In Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, and many other countries ruled by Islamic Law, women have waged a daily struggle against their governments with increasing casualties in defense of their rights, freedoms and their human dignity and yet Islamists are attempting to implement Islamic Sharia law in Europe and North America.
We the women from Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Tunisia, Syria and Egypt would like to protest against treatment of women under Sharia Law and demand that western governments take immediate action in order to prevent the implementation of Sharia Law into Western society by deeming Sharia Law illegal in all its forms. We further ask western governments to pressure Islamic countries to stop practicing Sharia Law as such antiquated laws grossly violate the rights of women.
We declare the 27th of September 2014 as the international day in defense of women’s rights in countries under Sharia law. On this day we call on freedom lovers and women’s rights activists around the world to hold demonstrations, discussion groups, picket lines, and protests against Islamic Laws which lead to gender apartheid, death, torture and imprisonment of thousands of women and young girls around the world.
