China to be turned into filets, then shipped back to Norway for sale. It takes
5 gallons of water to grow a single walnut. Livestock growth accounts
for 18% of greenhouse gases. And so on…
These are a few of the many examples of food items that consume too many resources and produce too much waste. But it’s up to the consumer to research this earth-saving information! There is NO information about this in labels. And sometimes local, green, organic, made in, mean very little...
It's time to be precise! We want to have the information to these questions immediately accessible.
Where do ingredients come from and where were they processed?
How much energy and water was consumed?
How many times did they travel by air, sea or land?
Now look at the picture. See the difference? Just like the Nutrition Facts label, but for Impact.
You know exactly how many airplane and ship travels were necessary to produce your food, and how water and energy intensive each step was.
Why is there no information like this in food labels?
Ask Ann Dunkin (CIO of Office of Environmental Information in the US) and Karl Falkenberg (Director-General for the Environment in the EU) for an Impact Facts label.
