Greek government : Enforce existing laws to save the Barrel Dogs

Throughout Greece and Cyprus, young dogs are kept as "scarecrows", on short chains, with only a metal barrel for shelter, and often no food or water, just to deter stray sheep and goats. They have no company, no exercise, no affection. The farmers care nothing for their welfare, and most die of starvation, heatstroke, dehydration or disease before the age of two. Existing anti-cruelty laws in Greece prohibit this treatment, but they are never enforced. We call on the Greek government to take action to stop this unnecessary cruelty, and to hand these dogs to animal charities or shelters.
