Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)
We believe Member of Parliament & Deputy Leader of PPM Paliamentary Group Riyaz Rasheed, representing Vilifushi constituency, should publicly apologize for his discriminatory and bigoted views against people who are not from Male' ('Rajje therey meehun').

Article 17a. of the Maldivian Constitution states:
  • Everyone is entitled to the rights and freedoms
included in this Chapter [Fundamental Rights & Freedoms) without discrimination of any kind, including race, national origin, colour, sex, age, mental or physical disability, political or other opinion, property, birth or other status , or native island.

Furthermore, Article 41a. of the Constitution states that " Every citizen has the freedom to enter, remain in and leave the Maldives, and to travel within the Maldives." and Article 32 of the constitution states "Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly without prior permission of the State."

As a Member of Parliament, who is constitutionally obliged to advocate for the rights of ALL citizens, we believe MP Riyaz Rasheed's views are completely unacceptable and abhorrent.

We ask MP Riyaz Rasheed and PPM Parliamentary Group to publicly apologize for this discrimination against the people of the Maldives.
