US House of Representatives, PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA, US SENATE
Why bring back this New Deal program? Let’s go back to the future and create a National Service to put Americans to work on jobs and teach skills that need to be done. They can save our environment and build national assets for future generations.

Eighty years ago on March 31,1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt in his first hundred days in office, signed into law his first “Alphabet Soup” New Deal initiative - the U.S. Civilian Conservation Corps.

"More important, however, than the material gains from their labors will be the moral and spiritual value of such work." -FDR

Over four million Americans found employment in the Civilian Conservation Corps for nine years from 1933 to 1942. The 20th Century CCC program was the most successful public works program in US history, and the government’s most lasting environmental effort as well. They fought forest fires, re-planted nearly 4 billion trees, and even provided disaster relief. The CCC demonstrated that there was absolutely no conflict between the preservation of the environment and the creation of jobs. Its program funding was cut over the objections of FDR in June 1942.

After 70 years, since June 1942, there is now federal legislation. HR188 is titled, the 21st Century Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Act, sponsored by the Honorable Marcy Kaptur of Ohio.

The Civilian Conservation Corps Initiative, Inc., a non-profit advocacy group asks all Americans to contact their representatives by email, post or phone at (202) 224-3121 to urge them to co-sponsor HR188 - the 21st CCC Act to re-establish and refund this program now and for future generations.

"We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build them for the future!" - FDR
