According to the 169 page report from Amnesty International hundreds of workers may have died, with tens of thousands likely to have been victims of routine abuse while building the infrastructure to enable the country to host the tournament. Many were effectively held hostage by employers and forced to work up to 14 hours a day, for months at a time without pay, in temperatures of up to 113F (45C), and without adequate access to water, safety equipment, or medical care. Passports are taken away from the workers, so they have no chance to leave the country and therefor are forced to continue to work under inhuman conditions.

Many workers’ living conditions were found to be “squalid”, with some sleeping up to 15 to a room in labour camps lacking electricity, running water or air conditioning, and with sewage leaking from the streets. In many cases medical help for the workers has been refused by the responsibles.

According to documents obtained from the Nepalese embassy in Doha, at least 44 workers died between 4 June and 8 August. More than half died of heart attacks, heart failure or workplace accidents.

The infrastructure to enable the FIFA World Cup 2020 in Qatar is build on massive violation of human rights and stands for slavery and brutal exploitation of humans!!
